Chantal Barnes was born and lives in England. After graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art in 2008, she moved to London where she established a successful career in television. However, a debilitating illness in 2014 forced her to take a break. During this time, as she recovered, she returned to painting professionally.
Chantal's work is layered recollections of being in a place. Her process begins with creating wet pools of abstracted colour on the surface. Working with initial abstraction rather than against it, she generates both an experiential emotion of existing in that landscape and a surface that is stacked with interesting accidents, fusing art, memory, and experiencing the land on increasingly collectible canvases.
Chantal has received prizes in national competitions, and her work is due to feature in an upcoming issue of British Vogue. Her paintings are in collections in London and across the UK, Australia and New York.
