A digital artzine looking at the ecosystem of environmental responsibility and creativity is in increasingly fine fettle, celebrating Holgate as a cracking place to live along the way.

Thank you, ward councillors Jenny Kent, Kallum Taylor, Lucy Steels-Walshaw.

PARENTS OF HOLGATE FAMILIES

“York was voted the best place to live in the UK. For us, Holgate is the best area, without a doubt. It’s so handy.”

“The traffic can be troublesome but we all know the councillors are working hard to address this issue. What we liked about the Holgate Art Camp sessions was that the young people looked at serious issues in a lighthearted way.”

“There’s not enough art in school anyway so these sessions were great. We had our kids coming back home from school saying “Mum! Dad! We can draw Manga characters in West Bank Park (laughs). And they’re genuinely good drawings too!”

For the first time we used AI software that assisted the young people in their reimagining of their community. It was the fusion of traditional skills and innovation that really gave this project that idiosyncratic verve.

“We LOVE working with Holgate Ward,” says charity director Ails McGee, “There’s an energy and sense of mischief that comes from living so near the city centre and yet remaining separate. The resiliency of the community is inspiring, and was easy to source and galvanise the creative activities that took place in the local schools, as well as community spaces such as Poppleton Road Memorial Hall.”
